About the Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is the world’s largest living coral reef spanning some 2500 kilometres and running parallel to the Queensland Coastline. The Great Barrier Reef is the crown jewel for residents and visitors to Port Douglas Australia and is home to an amazing diversity of marine life.

Boasting more Great Barrier Reef Tours than any city in the world, Port Douglas offers all visitors world class experiences from adventurous scuba diving to first time snorkelling options.

Some of the most popular Great Barrier Reef tours and day trips include sailing trips to idyllic sandy cays which are surrounded azure waters and easily accessible coral reef.

Other reef tours include a stop off at the world famous Green Island and then take you to a floating pontoon in the middle of the coral reef. Here, you can dive in and snorkel amongst coral gardens teeming with beautiful tropic reef fish, including Nemo (the world famous clown fish).

If you are short on time and only have a half day to visit the Reef, try one our the many island tours which are available with multiple departures from Cairns daily.

Island Getaways

To the South of Port Douglas is an untouched group of tropical islands called the Frankland Island Group. Reef tours depart Port Douglas daily and take you on a rainforest river cruise, where you can spot the fearsome salt water crocodile, before crossing the channel and cruising to your island paradise – Normanby Island.

The Great Barrier Reef, Australia is without question one of the best places in the world for scuba diving enthusiasts to experience the wonders of the deep. There are many companies that will take you on a scuba diving day trip, the hardest part is choosing the right reef tour to match your experience and interests. Liveaboard scuba diving tours are also available from Cairns, Australia and take you to the magnificent coral sea which surrounds Lizard Island and extended reef trips also take you as far as the world famous Cod Hole.
